Residential Trash and Recycling Services: 
Municipal Waste:  Trash collection service is necessary for every residential dwelling unit (including individual apartments).  It is your responsibility, as a home-owner and/or resident, to contact the Township’s contracted waste hauler to initiate an active service account.  All residential trash and recycling will be collected curbside by the Township’s designated hauler. Presently, the current designated hauler is Waste Management (www.wm.com or 1-800-433-7317)
Should you have electronics, such as TV's and computer components, contact the Adams County Rescue Mission for recycling (717-334-7502).

Recycling: Recycling is mandatory in Conewago Township; it’s the LAW.  All residents in Conewago Township are required to recycle.  Recycle Bins are available from the designated trash hauler.  Place all recyclable materials in your recycling bin next to your trash container for regular weekly pick-up. 

The following items must be recycled and can be placed in one bin:
Glass Containers:  food and beverage containers (bottles and jars) made of clear,
green, brown and amber glass.   
Remove caps/lids and rinse the container. Do not break glass.
(Not accepted: mirrors, window or auto glass, drinking glasses, blue colored glass, light bulbs, Pyrex,
glass cookware/bakeware, microwave-oven trays, ceramics, porcelain, pottery, perfume/cologne bottles, etc.)

Metals:  all beverage and food cans made of aluminum, iron, steel, tin or bi-metal (aluminum & steel) and aluminum foil and pie/baking tins.   Rinse cans.  (Not accepted: pie plates, wire coat hangers, wire, etc.) 

Newspaper
:  black and white or pigmented.  Clean newspaper only.  Tie in a bundle not to exceed 40 lbs. or place in a paper bag.  Do not put newspapers in plastic bags; recycle your plastic bags at your local grocery store. 

Cardboard
:  corrugated cardboard, fiber-board (such as cereal boxes, shoe boxes or similar).
(Not accepted: wax coated cardboard) 

Paper
:  construction paper, kraft paper, printer paper, computer paper, copy paper, junk mail, magazines, catalogs and phone books.  (Not accepted: wax coated paper) 

Gable-top containers
: empty and rinse gable-top milk and juice containers 

Plastic Containers
:  natural and pigmented plastic narrow-neck food and beverage containers (milk bottles & jugs, water bottles, detergent bottles, shampoo bottles, bleach bottles, etc.). 
Check the bottom for numbers 1-7 in the triangular recycling symbol. 
Lids and caps removed. 
(Not accepted: plastic bags, film & plastic wrapping, unnumbered plastics)

You may check with Waste Management to determine what other items are accepted for recycling.  www.wm.com or call 1-800-433-7317. 

Short-list of items Waste Management will not accept for recycling in addition to those noted above: batteries, styrofoam, light bulbs, wood or yard waste, cookware, bake-ware, electronics, appliances, hazardous or toxic substances, aerosol cans, and items containing or having debris and residue containing hazardous or toxic substances such as paint cans with wet paint, motor oil containers, gasoline cans, glue, petroleum products, etc.

Yard Waste Collections:
The Township will have two Yard Waste Collection dates; one time in Spring and another in Autumn.  These will be advertised in the Hanover Evening Sun as well as posted on the Township Website.  

Yard Waste (leaves, sticks and brush) shall be placed in open containers or in biodegradable paper bags.  Grass will NOT be collected.  Plastic bags are not permitted.

Note: yard waste can not be placed in the regular trash.  You may contact H&H in Spring Grove at (717) 225-1479 for instructions on taking your yard waste to their facility in between the designated Township yard waste collection dates.   

Burning: 
Open burning is not permitted in Conewago Township per Ordinance “Chapter 42, Open Burning”.

The Adams County Department of Environmental Services may be able provide more information on hard-to-recycle items.
