Bicycle Registration Program

     As a public service to its citizens, Conewago Township sponsors a crime prevention program aimed at reducing bicycle thefts and increasing the rate of recovery of stolen bicycles.  Every year the police recover numerous bicycles which they cannot match to owners because most people simply do not record the necessary identifying information for their valuable bicycles.  The Conewago Township Police Bicycle Registration Program has created an information database so that, if a registered bicycle is stolen, identifying information is on file and readily accessible to the Police Department.  Chances of recovery a stolen bicycle are greatly increased if this information is available.

     Registration is offered at NO CHARGE to residents of Conewago Township at the following location:

between the hours of 8:00am-1:00pm

Bicycle Registration Events will also be run in conjunction with Child ID Events.

Dates and times will be advertised prior to the event.

     The registration procedure is simple.  Pick up a registration form, available to you at the police station.  Complete the registration form with the following essential information:  Owner’s name, address, and phone number; bicycle make, model and color; features of the bicycle (speed, accessories); serial number.  Only bicycles with serial numbers can be registered through the program.  Return the completed form to the Police Department and receive a sticker which shows your individual registration number.  Place the sticker on either the seat tube or the head tube of the registered bike.  It’s that simple…and will facilitate the recovery and return of your family’s bicycles if they are lost or stolen.

Bicycle Safety Tips

     Know the law and talk to your children about riding safely and legally.  All riders are required to obey the law.  Conewago Township Police Department actively enforces applicable laws for the safety of our citizens of all ages.

     All riders are strongly encouraged to wear protective helmets to reduce head injuries.  Children under the age of 12 are required to wear approved safety helmets while riding a bicycle.

     All bicycles must be equipped with operable brakes.

     All bicycles operated between sunset and sunrise must be equipped with head lamps to illuminate the bicyclist’s path, and a rear reflector and amber reflective side markers.
